The Pew Research Center does regular polling on a variety of issues, including the energy kind. And just released Pew polling data on the public’s attitude toward fracking reveals something very interesting. Last March a Pew poll found that Americans approved of fracking by 10 points, 48-38%. The just released poll found that they oppose it, 47-41%. Like so many other things that seem good until you find out more about them, fracking’s popularity diminishes as its consequences become better understood. Or to put this another way, in this energy realm, familiarity breeds contempt
